Hey Loves,

I know I have been MIA, but I have been busy with school and haven't been wearing anything too special especially since I haven't been shopping/thrifting and have a limited supply of clothing. Posts will be sparse while I'm here, but hold on there with me. However, I have been making Youtube videos on my hair. Thrifting and hair are two of my favorite subjects and I enjoy talking about both. According to a poll I did a few months ago, people are not interested in hair on this blog, so I'm using Youtube as my platform for talking about my hair more!

In A Competition Against Myself

HELLO,

I know, I know. I have been terrible at posting frequently, but I have NO photographer anymore now that I don't have Chakayla. I really wanted to take photos during the day, but no one was available until 5:30... i.e. NIGHTTIME!! I tried my best and I hope you guys like the post regardless.

In regards to this post title, I am not a competitive person,never have been. HOWEVER, I AM in competition against myself. I am always trying to top myself and push myself for mastery and to reach higher heights. In that spirit,I tried to top my best outfit of 2011 by revamping the skirt (which has become one of my favorites.) For my ego's sake, I hope I succeeded lol. If not, there is always next time!!

Hello Again!

I know, I know so many are over color blocking, but I love it. As I have already stated, I love colors and color blocking allows me to incorporate many colors at one time. This outfit is one of my favorites of all time and I think it even trumps my best outfit of 2011. What do you think? Also, the LOVELY, SEXY, GORGEOUS necklace was handcrafted by the ladies over at Fifth n Sixth. I won it in a giveaway and I was and still am TOOO excited. Also, I am fashioning my latest Primark finds. LOVEEEEEEEEEE Primark. Anywho, I don'thave class today so I'm off to my interview and then window shopping at some markets. :)

It has been FOREVER, but rest assured I am still alive and kicking. As the video explains, I have been busy with orientation and Resident Assistant training, but I am BBBBBBBBBAAAAAAACCCCCCCCCCCKK. I have missed you guys WAY too much. I hope you are well :) I got to go to Primark (I have been wanting to go there for awhile now, and I got the opportunity so check out what I purchased).

I also have an OOTD for the first time in... Centuries. Yesterday, I went to visit my cousin Becky. It was my first time meeting her in my ENTIRE life and we connected as though we knew each other for our entire lives. It was a GREAT experience and I can't wait to visit her again, especially because my little Tonia (her daughter) is the most adorable baby in the world. Obviously I am LOVING London!! SIDE NOTE: The pics are at night because I lost track of time and it also gets dark here at like 4:30!

HELLOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

Today is officially the LAST day of 2011 and what a very lovely year it has been. I went natural, I had my FIRST kiss, fell in love for the FIRST time, I started this blog, I got to travel to Nicaragua, and the list goes on and on. I want to thank you guys for spending this year with me. With your love and support, you continually push me to discover the thriftshionista inside myself that has been stifled for far too long. As we go into this new year, I encourage all of you to visit a thrift store and find a unique item, and THEN WORK IT!!! Undoubtedly, 2011 has been fabulous, but 2012 is bound to be FIERCE. For the most part, this year will jump off in London and I am ready to create new lasting memories that I can share with all of you and remember for years to come. As we say goodbye to this year... Hello Babes,

It has been FAR TOOOOO long since I last posted. I have been busy with finals. I JUST completed a 12 page paper that I need to proofread and send off to my professor, but I am giving my mind a break before I finish up, I also need to start studying for my last exam in the a.m. It's computer science... pray for me lol. I wore this outfit like a week ago, and as you can see, I pulled out my red wine skirt yet again. I just love the color and the look of it so after a month of waiting to wear it, I decided why not. I try not to wear the same things too often, but I couldn't resist. Besides, I am starting a new feature on here titled "When Did I Wear It Best?" since the other post got so much reception.

This time I created a new look that made me feel like such a powerhouse. There is something about the blazer that gives me authority. You probably can't noticed but my earrings are leopard which contrasts with my tie, but I put on the earrings and added the tie way after because I thought something was missing from the look. I thought it was still a good combo... Let me know what you think.

Hello Guys!

I would like to start out by saying thank you for all the love. This blog is 14 readers away from 400. How exciting! Tomorrow will make 8 months since the day I started this blog and I'm happy to see that it has grown and transformed so rapidly thanks to all of you. You guys are the greatest!

Also, I just thought that I would show you guys what I wore yesterday for a presentation for my entrepreneurship class. You guys know I LOVE colors and I rarely wear black and white... Actually, never. However, I suggested that my group wear that color combination just because I knew everyone would have something to wear in their closet. However, this will be one of FEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWW times you see me wear black and white. I do appreciate the classiness and sex appeal of black and white, but I'm a rainbow baby. You can see that I made my scarf into a neck tie, to give myself a POP of color.

Anywho, I put on this outfit and I enjoyed it, but laughed as I walked out the door thinking that I looked like a flight attendant. Lo and behold, I walked into class and one of my flamboyant guy friends snapped his fingers and said "Looking like a classy stewardess . ."I busted out laughing because if he only knew, we were thinking the exact thing!

White Pants Way After Labor Day in the Spirit of My 90's #Swag

I know, I know....What a long title. I just thought it was fitting for my outfit. I wore this outfit this past Thursday, but today was my only opportunity to post. Sometimes I forget that I'm a 90's baby because I am so infatuated with the 70's and 80's. However, I went back to my roots that day and it was really fun. The glasses are definitely not mine. Good Morning Yall,

I had no homework tonight (what a surprise,) but like a good college student, I am up wasting time when I should be sleeping. Hey, the break is coming up so I can indulge myself in sleep then. This is the first time this week that I have worn something besides jeans or yoga pants so you should be proud of me. If you guys ever saw the "chill" me, it would be a problem lol. I do not have a healthy medium. I am either cute or shabby LOL. Well it happens right? I know yall love me either way. ....I would hope so lol

On to business, this top brought me a lot of compliments today. One of my friends (who is white) said, " I love it, you look so black today!" It was the funniest thing by itself but because I don't take race seriously and I try not to see color, it made it even funnier. Sadly, we live in a world that operates contrary to that, but I refuse to be caught up in it. Another person told me, "you look so African chic"

I really didn't know how people were going to respond to my dashiki at a fairly conservative school, but I got good reception (not like I truly care what negative comments people have to say about my style). Anywho, enough talking. Here's the outfit. I stole the dashiki from my mom's closet. Someone had given it to her as a gift, but she had it for years and never wore it....this is ME wearing it lol

OOTD: Inspiration Is A Form of Flattery

Hello Beauties,

I am a firm believer in inspiration versus imitation. We often hear the phrase, "Imitation is a form of flattery." I would like to change that. I replace imitation with inspiration. I never set out to imitate someone's style or look, but I am often inspired by it. I am forever searching through tumblr and blogs and find DOPE DOPE DOPE people whose style I drool over. I take their looks and create my own. Yesterday, I was inspired by Shirley of Meek-n-Mild and Spencer (previously featured on my blog) of Proprpostur. I was inspired by Shirley's scarf and Spencer's socks.... (what's with me and s's)

A Big Hair Kinda Day

Hello Lovelies,

I decided to finally blow my hair out and rock a braid out. Frizziness is a *insert obscenity here* but I was definitely loving the big hair look. I look at myself now and can't believe I ever wanted/had straight hair. I love my curls and kinks. Today my directing professor said, "You look exotic." I think it was the hair and the cardigan, but it made me laugh. This cardigan is 100% wool and I definitely loved the texture. Also, I was skeptical to wear the long skirt with the oxfords, but I think it worked out. I guess you will let me know!! Random: I got my necklace from Sears... I thought Sears only sold appliances until one of my friends went in there to buy a playsuit for Halloween. On our way to check out, I saw this necklace and I was drooling. I looked at the price tag and told myself "that's too much." But... as soon as we returned to Sears to return the playsuit (yes my friend is THAT chic) I picked it up! That's enough craziness for one day. . .

OOTD: I'm Diggin' That African Vibe

Hey Loves,

I am up deep conditioning my hair and I thought I would post the outfit I wore today (well technically yesterday). I have been waiting to wear this outfit and today was the perfect day to wear it. I got the nicest compliment from the costumer here. She said, "hmm.. I love the African print mixed with corporate, it fits you so well." Later in the day, she said, "Wow this African look really fits you. I would look into that more." Needless to say, I was flattered. My new love of African prints is rather ironic because as a child, I would hate when my mom fashioned her African prints and dashikis. Obviously, mom is WAY ahead of the time. Now, I love these prints and it DOES fit my style. Idk it makes me feel all powerful and bold. The top is another number I stole from mom. How faulous?!?! I am also excited that I got to wear my new lipstick today. I never thought I'd be a girl wearing lipstick, and now look at me :)

1. What was your first thrifting experience? How often do you thrift now?

The real quesiton would be when did I stop thrifting? I have always thrifted, I didn't even realize I was thrifting until someone told me I was! My mom has always been a bargain hunter, and this has been passed on to me. I go a few times a month, I don't like clutter so I try to avoid going a lot so I don't accumulate a lot of things I don't need. I feel like if you also go too often it takes the fun out! Maybe like 3xs a month!

2. How is thrifting in Chicago?

AMAZING, Even when I was living in New York City over the summer I MISSED CHICAGO THRIFTING! I think part of it comes from not too many people are looking out here in the midwest. It is obvious that people thrift in NYC because essentially it's "cool" so they get away with marking up things and allowing you to feel helpless. In Chicago, they haven't quite figured out the market so I can get Chanel for 3 bucks because no one knows it's worth out here! And it hasn't become quite so trendy in here, so the thriftstores ARE LOADED with goodies.

3. What items do you have most luck finding?

I seem to have a great eye for shoes! Which I think is a hard find. A nice pair of quality leather shoes is hard to find almost anywhere. All my favorite pairs have all been from thrift stores. And I don't have tiny feet so when I can find a 9-9.5, I am more than thrilled! My latest find are my brown lace up booties for $1.75! I have been looking for a pair for 2 years all ranging from $80-200+, some not even real leather!! I feel so lucky, in fact I'm wearing them now!

4. Why do you thrift?

I have a hard time spending a lot of money on clothes. I work hard for all I have and I always choose food, traveling or entertainment over dressing myself, there's less guilt in buying a delicious meal than one piece of clothing. Plus I love the challenge! When I flip through the issues of NYLON, ViVi, and JaLOUSE, I can't bring myself to pay $1,000 for a Christopher Kane Jacket or $180 for a chiffon blouse. I know many of these "new looks" have been recycled, and you can almost find a higher quality version at the thrift store. Another reason is often times they don't make clothing for women of a "curvier" nature anymore. I have a very curvy body that I am NOT ashamed of (born this way.) If they are making clothes to fit the body types of women where the clothes are manufactured, its not going to fit me! Also on a less political note~ I'm such a klutz! I would be too afraid to wear anything too expensive in fear I would get ketchup all over it.

5. YOUR HAIR IS FABULOUS!! How does your hair affect your style?

My curls definitely define my personality! I was once like everyone else, fighting against what already naturally happens, and after my hair started falling out, I decided that's it! I need to start leaving it alone. In fact it's now been on exact year since I've worn it curly (despite an interesting Dominican salon experience in Brooklyn this summer...) When I was rockin the straight locks, I felt like I hid behind my bangs, but now I feel like my hair makes me stand out so much I might as well not try to hide at all! It has made be become more bold in my personality, in my style, in everything! Straight hair Bianca was quiet and meek, Big hair Bianca and quirky and loud.

6. I consider you a thriftshionista. What does that mean to you?

Part fashionista, part thrift store queen! Not just someone who thrifts for the sake of thrifting, but someone who loves the challenge of being fashionable on a student's budget!

7. Do you think your thrifted pieces make a statement?

I believe that they do, sometimes they can come off as one of a kind, or last of its kind. I always get asked where'd I get some of my greater pieces and almost sadly it's no longer mass produced. They make you feel special cause you think that no one has this piece but you. And since they're vintage they tell great stories, they make you ponder what wonderful woman (or man) owned this piece before you.

8. If you had to choose, what are your favorite thrifted pieces?

I'm really pleased with my last haul (picture attached) I went a little nuts with the button downs but I couldn't be more pleased. I love love love the color blocked shirt, Pendleton Print Jacket, and that colbat blue peter pan blouse IS TO DIE and its real silk! So much cheaper than American Apparel's imitation, and again, it's real silk.

So you guys should know by now that I rarely go anywhere. I am either doing school or... doing school.... So I can't wear revealing clothes because I don't want to look crazy in front of my professors. I believe in showcasing my sense of style but in a professional way. Therefore, I took yesterday to show some skin in Crab Tree Mall in Raleigh. I have been wanting to wear this outfit FOREVER. I love the shorts I got from ASOS Curve and I was excited to wear them. The Thriftshionista At The State Fair

Hello Babes,

I finally took a much needed break from school. Friday was our fall break so we got that day off. It was only one day, but I got to go to the North Carolina State Fair in Raleigh with JC for the first time. It was SOOOOO much fun. I enjoyed the log water ride the most. It made me feel like such a kid again and I haven't laughed and squealed like that in a long time. I even got to eat at Cheescake Factory AND P.F. Changs for the very first time as well. This weekend was the first of alot of things and I'm glad I got the experience. However, I am BROKE right now, but it was worth it. Sad story though... I rode the roller coaster (JC told me not to) and both of my earrings fell out. How sad is that?!?!? You can see I started off the day wearing them and by the end, they were MIA. I hate not wearing earrings but the show had to go on. Forgive me guys :) On the bright side, I won a stuffed animal. I named him Kaz :) (My boyfriend's nickname is Kazuma (It's Japanese for One Reality))... Yes I know, I'm such a romantic lol

Hello Lovelies,

I wore this outfit yesterday, but I didn't get a chance to post because I had a computer science exam to study for... TALK ABOUT BRUTAL!!!!! Let's not talk about how I did lol. I'm just glad it is over and I am one step closer to Christmas Break.

On to my outfit! I LOVE my lime green neon top. I randomly found it in a store in the mall back home. This little store sells clothes, jewelry, hair products, shoes, and more. It is quite amazing. What was even more amazing was that this shirt came in plus sizes. I think God just smiled at me that day.

Also, everyone was amazed by my earrings/necklace. They couldn't fathom how my necklace was coming from my ears. When I saw this piece of jewelry in a Florida jewelry store I was TOOOOOOOOOOO excited.. AND it was only a buck-a-roo. NOTE: My skirt is actually a pleated midi skirt that I folded over because I think a shorter hemline looked better with this outfit :)

Lastly, I made a personal goal to reach 300 followers by the end of the month. It's the 19th of October and I am officially at 301 Followers. THANK YOU to my new and veteran followers. You guys are amazing. Thank you for your lovely comments and continuous support.

I hope you are having an amazing day. I am sitting in front my computer trying to do work but I am desperately failing. I am going back to my room to sleep.. no not nap...SLEEP. I am SUPER TIRED and I can do work later or tomorrow. I wanted to show you guys my outfit from yesterday which I ABSOLUTELY LOVED!!!!! My hair was finally doing what it was suppose to do and I am definitely pleased with the look. My favorite part of my look is my necklace!! It is actually a vintage belt, circa 1980's that I scored from GW. I DIY'd it and made the transformation. It is my FAV piece of jewelry and I've been waiting for the perfect outfit to wear it. Hello Pumpkins,

We are one day away from Friday. YAY!!! I actually have no homework tonight because I worked ahead and now I'm FREE!!!!! YAY!!!! Anywho, I wore this number today to class and I LOVED this fit. This tunic belonged to my mom and it is SOOOOOOOOO gorgeous. This is one of the items that I stole from her closet, but she hasn't worn it in like 10 years so I know it was happy to see the light of day again. You know a lot of girls talk about playing dress up in their mother's clothes when they were younger? For some reason, I never did that. I was too busy playing house with my cooking toys I guess LOL. Well, it's never too late to be a kid again so now, I'm finally playing dress up. Shout out to my mom for being a fashionable diva and sewing this beautiful tunic. YES SHE MADE IT. You are one fly chic mom!!

SIDE NOTE: I originally intended to wear the tunic with just tights, but when I put it on today.. my butt was WAY out. YES HUNNY!!! I would have stopped traffic if I even attempted to leave my apartment without some butt covering. However, I WILL wear these shorts again soon so they can get some real action.

HELLO BABES,

So I thought my post title was pretty clever, but hey... you may disagree. I decided to dress up today even though it was raining. The evil unfashionable devil who sits on my left shoulder said "Don't dress up. Wear a t-shirt and sneakers today." I swatted her right off of me and pulled out one of my new thrifted finds that I found over the summer. This skirt reminds me of spring AND summer combined. I don't believe in matching colors to seasons, so please believe I will be wearing pinks, oranges, and yellows well into winter.

On another note, I am super excited because I am ALMOST at 300 followers and it has only been 6 months. I have a personal goal of getting to 300 by the end of the month so I hope it works out. I hope bad weather is not blocking your marvelous styles!

1. What was your first thrifting experience? How often do you thrift now?

I’ve spoken of my first experience several times and I remember it like it was yesterday…and well folks…as you can tell by my young age haha it was NOT yesterday! Growing up we used to frequent local thrift shops, The Salvation Army in particular. My dad had a knack for finding things, and re-creating and re-furbishing furniture and electronics. My mom on the other hand was super sexy and had a special talent for finding unique and amazing things for almost nothing! One experience that sticks out was when I found this vintage burgundy, velvet coat and lace dress… when I was about 6 years old…I couldn’t wait to wear it and I remember going home and putting it on and having my dad, who was a photographer, take pics of me..

I would like to say I only go thrifting once a month…but I can’t…cuz that would be a lie…I go often…but I always try to give myself a budget for the month, that way even if I go 12 times I still only spent $150 for that month…you got me? Haha When I don’t go..I picture amazing finds just sitting there waiting…it’s like going to the animal shelter…I mean do you ever come home without an animal? Haha ok YOU guys probably do…but I have 2 cats and 2 dogs…let’s just say I am not allowed to go to the animal shelter anymore.. I started Thrifters Anonymous for a reason…

2. What items do you have most luck finding?

I find the best dresses..and blazers/jackets…really I am just good at spotting “Oskie Woskies” for those who follow my blog you know ALL about Oskie Woskies…they are vintage and they are old…and they are FABULOUS!...blouses, skirts, dresses, scarves, purses…say it with me everyone…”OSKIE WOSKIE!”

3. Why do you thrift?

Each item you find is one of a kind…or at least that is how it feels…each item has a story, and each item seems as though they were meant for me. When I spot something and try it on, I rarely look at the size, the brand, or even the price for that matter…it’s like you are free from judging the item and judging yourself…you can now shop strictly based on COLOR, STYLE, and INSPIRATION.

When you go into a department store you have a tendency to go towards what you feel comfortable with…like if you wear Kenneth Cole, you probably won’t wear Guess…and if you think that Guess only makes clothes for certain body types…you will NEVER even look at the clothes…do you see where I am going with this! I mean…we are missing out on so many amazing things! Obviously the material and fit are key to a great piece…thrifting allows you to be free…FREE from the restrictions we have all placed on ourselves!

4. I consider you a thriftshionista. What does that mean to you?

Well, first I would say THANK YOU Miss SheRea…you are one of my inspirations! Thriftshionista can mean many things. I just mentioned this in another feature and I loved it after I said it! Haha I know…I surprise myself sometimes…” Chic doesn’t come from your wallet, it comes from within”…I just like to get more clothes for my money…being fashionable doesn’t mean you wear Chanel…you can wear Chanel..and look ridiculous…it’s how we feel, and how the clothes we wear make us feel…

5. Do you think your thrifted pieces make a statement?

I would say any piece of clothing or accessory can make a statement…but there is something about a thrifted piece that actually makes you giddy with excitement!

YOU found it amongst all the crap. YOU styled it with another vintage piece. YOU have a story of how you found it and YOU probably paid less than $5 for it..which in turn makes everyone upset and has them secretly wishing they had spotted it before you! The statement I usually get is..”ARE YOU KIDDING ME! I NEVER FIND ANYTHING” I get sad for those poor folks..and then happy cuz if they leave with nothing..I can come home with something :O) haha just kidding I wish I could go with everyone to help them!!

6. What advice would you give to someone interested in thrifting?

I‘ve mentioned these tips in previous posts but these are tips I always follow and hold true to.

Here are the top 5 things I do before I go thrifting and while I am there:

1. I grab some magazines and start tearing out anything that inspires me, colors, styles, or even people (stars) and I take them with me! You will be surprised how your eye magically goes to all of the items you chose! I write down a list of the items I definitely want to find i.e. jean shirt, yellow skirt, lace dress and give yourself a budget ($30 is what I usually say)

2. I wear comfy tight clothes.. gym clothes are the best and flip flops Or something with some color, when you try things on sometimes you get the best combos and ideas from what you are already wearing!

3. Either wear a belt, or grab some belts, even if you don't want to buy any. They can make any dress, skirt, or top look amazing and really help you decide if it is a piece that will work.
4. I TRY ON EVERYTHING over my clothes in front of a mirror, honestly I just hate being in the dressing rooms and I feel like I can talk with photographer extraordinaire about the find.
5. And that brings me to the last and most important thing I do, I NEVER go alone. I mean the best part about shopping is being with someone to share in the high you get! Bring a friend to discuss fit, get you out of something you are stuck in, tell you how ridiculous you look, or help you weed through what you chose before you check out!

7. If you had to choose, what are your favorite thrifted pieces?

YES I am still alive... For the most part. I have a crazy cold and my head hurts and body aches. My gym flow is now on a stand still, but I can barely function. OOTN: A Night Out With the Girls

Hello Lovelies,

I should definitely be sleeping right now because I have a 9 am class, but I just thought I'd put these up before my week gets too hectic. I am just letting you guys know that my posts may become a little less frequent because I've decided to get back on my work out grind and that means I'll be wearing work out clothes throughout the week (how awful and unfashionable). I realized that the days I dress up, I never even blinked at the gym.... so... I have to sacrifice my vanity. Don't give up on me because I'm not giving up on you :)

On to the post, I actually went out this Saturday (I NEVER go to parties on campus, because they are... um... wack) My friend talked me into going and even bought my ticket (yes I have to pay to be miserable) so I said hey, why not. As expected, the party was a bust and there was even a fight resulting in a girl's hair being pulled out (not extensions... her actual hair..) It was not pretty and it was an awful situation and needless to say, I'm going to stay in my room and just skype my boo from now on.. I can't do the drama or wasting my precious time.

On the bright side, I got to dress up which was a plus. :)

I hope you guys had an amazing weekend. My life is pretty hectic right now. When I'm not doing work, I'm thinking about doing work. I'm surviving either way, so I'm grateful.

OK, so I really enjoyed this outfit that I wore today. I got a lot of compliments and one of my male friends said "you look thrifty. I know thrifty when I see it." I couldn't help but laugh and was quite flattered. However, the funniest part of my day occurred when another one of my friends said, "you look ethnic." She then elaborated that I "looked connected to the motherland" lol. I had the afro and the wooden earrings so she got a good laugh out of me and I wasn't offended at all. I mean, did I have reason to be?

Anywho, I hope I do better at posting more frequently, but I can never get anyone to take pics of me... Maybe this week will be better :)

Happy Monday!!! How are you guys doing??? Today was a very rainy and dull day in Winston, but I refused for the ugly weather to hamper on how beautiful I felt inside. I spent most of the day hiding from the rain because I've lost my umbrella. The umbrella in the pics were just a prop borrowed from one of my friends at the END of the day, after getting wet ALL day. Hello World,

Today is yet another day of school. Though the semester has just started, it already feels like we are nearing the end. I got many compliments on my outfit today and one of my guy friends said, "You look very tropical today." I mean what can I say? I love bright colors and bold prints. HELLO BABES!!

I feel so fabulous today that I can just kiss somebody . . . I feel sooo ALIVE!!!!!!!! IDK what has gotten into me but I'm going to ride this high as long as I can. Today, I knew I wanted to dress up and show off my new hair. Yesterday, I got my hair flat ironed and trim to get rid of my ratty ends. This outfit just came to me (like out of nowhere) and I LOVE IT!!!

Anywho, Monday will make seven months since I went fully natural and I'm loving every moment of it. After I got my hair did... yes did.. I went to get my first lipstick (of my life) from Mac. I see all the fierce bloggers wearing their luscious lip colors so I wanted to be FIERCE as well. I hope you guys like it.

My new favorite things: lace and leopard are also starring in this outfit. You guys already know how much I love lace.. but its a crop top.. YESSSSSSS two fierce trends in ONE. The funny thing about this top is that as far I could tell, it was the last one left in Rainbow. I actually saw it in another costumer's hands and KNEW I had to have it. Thankfully, she put it down after complaining about the price of $7. I was SOOOOOOOO happy. As soon as she walked away, I scooped it up with the quickness. As they say, one man's trash is another man's treasure.. THANK YOU random lady!!

Also, animal prints get me EVERY time. I found this lovely number in Goodwill and I knew I had to have it. (as ALWAYS) It had the ugliest pattern towards the bottom of the hem so I asked the tailor to cut it off and re-hem the skirt. Yes before the alteration, it was pattern mixing gone bad. The most interesting part about these two pieces is that they are both from the straight sizes section. The top is a Large and the skirt is an XL... Yes, you will never know what will fit so I always suggest that people try on EVERYTHING.

Hello Beautifuls,

These are the FINAL photos from Antigua. At the time I envisioned and wore this outfit, I was just planning on finding a away to remix my FAVVVVVVV floral skirt that I wear as anything BUT a skirt. That was until EBEW came out with the "Mixed Prints" challenge. However, I'm still willing to create more ways to wear that gem of a floral skirt. As you can see, I've created three different looks already!

Anywho, the pattern on the dress turned shirt is very subtle but it's a pattern nonetheless so I thought this outfit would be perfect for the challenge. This is one of my FAV outfits of all time and I'm definitely going to wear it again and again. I was VERYYYYYYYYY disappointed when I missed the "Thrift" challenge. Just imagine, the thriftshionista missing that. I couldn't just let this challenge get away from me this time!

I am not for following trends, but most of us can agree. TRENDS are hot. Mixing prints can be a tacky endeavor or a fierce success. How do you think I did? Who has been mixing prints lately/? I'd love to know!!

Happy Tuesday to all. I decided to combine two posts in one because I had taken few photos of each outfit. The title of this post sparked because the receptionist of the hotel told me, "Your mother fits in here, but you look like a tourist." I found it to be extremely funny because most Antiguans are dark-complexioned and there I was walking around and sticking out with a lighter complexion. I also did not dress like the other girls my age in their urban brands. Well... I enjoyed every moment of looking like a tourist!!!

GOOD NIGHT PEOPLE!!

I told myself that I would post once a day, but right now I am up with nothing to do so I thought I would just go ahead and post. SOOOOO.... I FINALLY got to color block!!!!!!!! I've been watching the trend for months now and I thought I'd never find pieces that I wanted to use to make an entire outfit. I am really glad about how this outfit turned out. The skirt is actually a sundress (purchased September 2009) that I folded over...What makes these photos great is the beautiful background. These photos were taken at a tourist attraction called Devil's Bridge. The history of this place goes back to the days of slavery when slaves would throw their babies into the rough seas so that they would never feel the grasp of slavery and other horrific events. HAPPY SUNDAY!!

I hope you all are happy and blessed this morning!!! I'm just on a high right now. I am HOME with friends and family that I LOVE to pieces. I'm glowing right now... This is another OOTD from Antigua (there is still 5 more posts after this one before I show you guys everything. I don't want to put a million photos under one post) So this dress was a fab find from Salvation Army. I rarely go there because I usually stick to the GW right by my campus but I'm glad I got to go there when I did. This dress was longer but I got it altered.Yes I could have done it myself but.... I'm lazy... VERY LAZY!!! I could have saved the $10 I payed for a hem. but I digress... Anyway I love that this dress is vintage but it looks like I got in from Forever 21. It's always interesting how patterns and trends repeat themselves. The best part however, NO ONE will have it on. As my girl Kiah says, one of my FAV bloggers (From the Rez to the City).. VIVA LA VINTAGE!!!!

Hello Lovelies!!

I hope you enjoyed the previous post. My first day in Antigua was pretty eventful so I got to wear TWO outfits. This outfit was worn to go to the casino and try my luck. Now I NEVER gamble. LIKE NEVER!! I'd rather spend my money on clothes, but I went anyways and I realized I don't have any luck. I am just a blessed person and I was not provided with any financial blessings that night.. but HEY.. at least I was out. Those pants are SOOOO comfortable... I don't even feel like im wearing bottoms.. how liberating LOL. They are a soft cottony material and have like a yoga pant feel. ANYWHO I wore them out because... I can.. I think the drawstring leg makes it appropriate. Don't you??? The shirt is actually a crop top. YAY my first crop top!! I was definitely pleased.

These pics were not taken with the best scenery.. I was in the hotel room, but I hope you guys have a FAB day today. I'm going shopping for a dress to wear to a group dinner.. I'll hopefully find something CHEAP and SEXY!!

Day One: I've Got the Blues . . .But Not Really

HELLO AMAZING, INCREDIBLE, and LOVING PEOPLE!!!

It feels sooooooooooo good to be back and I have missed so much in 10 days that it's crazy. I don't think that I will ever be able to catch up on everything. I want to thank everyone who left beautiful comments while I was away. Thank you for your continued support. Also, thank you to my veteran and newbie followers who are comment shy but continue to read the blog. LOVING vibes go out to all of you!!! I'VE MISSED YOU!

As I predicted, Antigua was HOTTTTTTTTTTTTT. Like so hot, I stayed in the hotel ALOT. Yes, I am that girl. I cannot stand the sun.... AT ALL. My last name is DelSol (Spanish for "of the sun") and I'm from the Caribbean, but I'm walking irony. When I left the hotel however, I made heads turn (well in my mind at least) I took only a few pics of landscape (which you will see in later posts). My camera has little to no memory and wont take a larger SIM card ( I told you, it hates me.) ANYWHO... I really enjoyed my time there. It is really similar to home but people there have a thicker dialect. I didn't get to go inside the beautiful beach water because the waves were tough because of a tropical storm. (Some days hot, others raining.. MANY days BOTH)

Hello Again,

I have already explained how much I LOVE vests so I won't get into that again. I think vests can easily transform a casual look. I am essentially just wearing jeans and a v-neck, but the vest gives the look more UMPH (spell check) . . .well in my opinion. I don't have much to say besides you won't be hearing for me in awhile (10 Days to be exact) Tomorrow, I am going on another trip.. this time to the lovely island of Antigua. Hear this..this place has 365 beaches!!!!!!!!!!! YES HUNNY, a beach for EVERYDAY of the year. HOW EXCITING. It's my mom's homeland and I haven't been there since 2007. Can't wait to be reacquainted. Colors Make the World Go 'Round. . .Or At Least Mine

HELLO BEAUTIES!!

I was supposed to post these pictures earlier but I fell asleep after a day out with mom... always LONG and TIRING but FUNNNNNNNNNNN. The pics start off with poor quality, but trust me, they get better. I thought they were cute and I didn't want to part with them. Today I basically ran errands all day and I wanted an excuse to STUNT. I LOVE the top I found in Rainbow...yesterday LOL. I can testify that Rainbow sells good looking things, real cute. However, they lack in quality, but you can't beat $5. This shirt was brand new when I put it on this morning and I woke up from my nap with cotton balls all across the chest area <.< I HATE cotton balls, but this shirt is TOO cute to throw it away. I got it in a straight size XL (still don't know how I got in it LOL) I want to get a bright colored bottom from a thrift store to wear with it the next time I pull it out, which is hopefully soon because I LOVE colors..hmmm I think you've noticed that lol. OOTD: You Vacation Here, but I Call This Place Home

Hello Loves!!

Why am I up now? I just came from the movies with my boyfriend. It was too dark to take decent photos. However, I dressed up today to run some errands for my mom. IT WAS SOOOOOO HOT. Like I was drenched in sweat HOTTTTTTTTTT. So hot, my mom had to stop to buy a roll of paper towel. Yes, it was THAT serious!!! My photographer (mother) wanted a change of location (isn't she so cute??!?!?) so we went to a place called Yacht Haven. It is home of stores such as Gucci, Coach, Louis Vuitton, etc. I definitely can't afford these places, but it's always good to be surrounded by luxury. It would have been the perfect opportunity to take photos in different areas, but I didn't want to risk melting (sugar melts hunny). After taking these pictures, I further realized, I am fortunate enough to call this place my home. BE JEALOUS: ) LOL

Moving on, as you may have noticed, I don't wear heels. I loathe the things! I have SUPER flat and WIIIIIIIDDDDEEEEEE feet and quite frankly, heels are uncomfortable. I'd rather stay on solid ground, if you don't mind. On to our regular programming. I am totally in love with this shirt. I thought this outfit was simple but CUTE and I loved how big my fro looked... YAY BIG HAIR!!! I also included some pics of my hair that I took tonight (because I'm OBSESSED and CONSUMED in my hair) Yeah, I said it!!

Mom Closet Raid: An African Queen

Hello Beautiful People,

It was another HOT day here in the VI. If you look closely at the photos, you can definitely see that I'm under a SERIOUS sweat. Today, I once again went into mom's closet and pulled out something. I pulled out a beautiful skirt that my mom sewed when I was a baby. This skirt is probably like 15 years old.. talk about vintage!! My mom is a lover of African prints and you can sometimes see her rocking her dashikis. She has such a beautiful spirit and a giving heart. I am proud to call her my mom.

Today's outfit is definitely one of my FAVS!! The photos don't do the look any justice, but hey, it happens :) A photo is only worth so many words. This outfit made me feel really regal and like an African Queen. With my fro out, and head held high, I couldn't be stopped today!!

A Glamorous Day to All,

I hope this post finds you well. I can't stress how HAPPY I am to be home with my friends, loved ones, and my boo. LMAO. It is soooooooooo hot here, I'm sweating bullets as I write this post in a HOTTTTTTTT kitchen. Thank God, my room has A/C. Besides the heat, I'm loving every moment here. Just imagine, I get to go to the beach WHENEVER I WANT!! That is reason enough. Today, like every other day, I just left the house to pick up my mom from one job to take her to the next one. Yes HUNNY, she is a go-getter. No one ever sees these outfits besides you and her coworkers, but hey, I own a blog and besides, I need a reason to dress up. I apologize in advance for the poor picture quality. I HATE the camera I'm using now and I am really looking forward to a new one. In the meantime, I have to use what I have. I'm excited about this outfit because it makes me feel all islandy and the fact that my mom sewed the top makes it even more special!! I raided her closet and got some GREAT pieces!! Can't wait to work them into my outfit circulation. BEST PART: I'm rocking a SIX dollar outfit. Yes, I'm winning.

I definitely havent been posting as frequently as I usually do. Like every good thriftshionista/fashionista, I have been leaving my house looking cute these past few days, HOWEVER there has been NO ONE to take pictures of me. I definitely need to suck it up and get over myself. Like seriously!! These are some pics I took on Friday and just haven't had the chance to post. I also thought I would have A LOT more to put up. Fail much? This outfit is REALLY casual, but I'm not the kind of person to say an outfit is not "blog worthy." HELLO? This is a personal style blog and most days, I am casually dressed. Yes hunnies, it's hard to keep up with Carrie from Sex and the City. (She is one FLYYYYYYYYYY woman). As you can see, I'm wearing jeans which is REALLY rare for me. I used to love jeans but over time, I traded them for men's trousers. Well, these were on sale for CHEAP so I couldn't resist. I'm a thriftshionista, I couldn't help myself. Sorry it has been a minute, but I am FINALLY home on my island paradise, yes people I'm back in the Virgin Islands. I came back on Saturday and I've just been relaxing so far. A Nautical Stripe Inspiration

Hello My Loves,

I hope you guys are having a glamorous night!! Earlier today, I went thrifting at Mega Thrift & Goodwill with Piphers. I know, I know, I have a problem!! I got some AWESOME stuff and you'll see the items work their way into my wardrobe soon enough. Every time I say that I am going to take a break from shopping/thrifting, I ALWAYS seem to go back. You can really NEVER have enough clothes! I think I need to start wearing all the things that I haven't worn. I have so much clothes, but I re-wear and remix the same pieces ALL the time. I always have this thing about not wanting to wear things until the "right occasion." I am definitely going to do better!!

Anywho, this post is about my new obession, nautical stripes and a solid/bold color. Before this became popular on many blogs, I actually saw a VERY good friend of mine from high school named Akoya rock the look. I was like "WOW, I didn't know stripes looked so good with purple." I was adamant that I would pull of the luck after her dope and inspiring outfit. Then, Piph also pulled off the look and I was CONVINCED that I had to try it. Look at these ladies!! I can't help but be fashionable! It's wonderful being surrounded by friends with such great personalities and killer styles!! I am truly blessed!!

Hey Lovelies,

A lot of the time I was wearing jeans and a white v-neck for service work, but these are what I threw together when we went out to eat or took a day off. OOTD: A Day of Thrifting

Hello My Loves,

I wore this outfit yesterday to go thrifting with Piph. It isn't much of a thrifted outfit, but it was pretty thrifty. We hit up Salvation Army (only my third time going) and a Goodwill that is further away from campus. I made out with a few cute things, especially two PERFECT dresses that I'm going to have someone hem to make them more modern (yes I'm too lazy to do it myself.) It was a great day and I'm enjoying my time with her. I shot the thrifting haul video, but for some reason, I'm unable to edit it. Hopefully, it will work out :) Till Next Time :)

Hello World,

I have been holding out on OOTD posts because I've been waiting to show you what I wore in Nicaragua. During the trip, my camera died and I asked my roommate to take a few pics. She still has those pics, but as soon as she sends them along, I will share those photos with you. I want to constantly keep this blog updated to keep you guys interested so I'm just going to skip ahead. I wore this outfit yesterday to get something to eat and chill around campus. I am spending some time with my Piph who is taking a summer class at Wake Forest. I wore the skirt a few months ago just to make an OOTD post for the blog, but I had never actually worn it out. Not really, because they may feel that its “dirty” somewhat.

Have their girlfriends drag them along lol. Possibly carry or display their items better.

Thrifting is so much more cheaper and you can find sooooo many more better items in a thrift store than any shopping mall really.

My Trip to Nicaragua: What I Saw & More

Hello Lovelies,

It is soooooooooo great to be back. It definitely has been a long time coming. I didn't abandon the blog. For those of you who don't know, I went to Nicaragua for 10 days. Nicaragua is the second poorest country in Latin America with 80% percent of its population making less than $2 a day. I went there to volunteer and give back to a community of people who virtually have nothing. Many people eat, sleep, work, and go to school in the dump. Yes people, the dumb. Imagine what diseases and dangerous things they are exposed to on a daily basis. It was a very humbling experience that slapped me in the face and put me in my place. These people continue to smile through the turmoil, but it also really pushes me to continue on so that I can one day have the means to give back on a large scale. I urge you all to reach out to your impoverished communities and lend a helping hand. No act is ever too small.

Also, many persons in Nicaragua only speak Spanish so there was definitely a language barrier. It was hard communicating what I wanted to eat, where I wanted to go, etc. That was humbling because it is so easy to be frustrated with foreigners who don't know English in the U.S. I became a foreigner and it further thought me the importance of patience, understanding, and having an open mind.

While in Nicaragua, I did some amazing things. I went to a lagoon and laid in a hammock for the first time (it was a big deal to me) however I couldnt go swimming because I didn't bring swimming clothes (yes how silly of me). I also stayed at the nicest hotels in both Managua and Granada and ate at the nicest restaurants. My most favorite drink was arroz con pina (rice and pineapple; it sounds disgusting but it was SOOOOOO good..please dont judge me LOL) It was definitely a service trip but it was also a vacation (a double package I can't complain). Furthermore, I conversed with the locals, visited some historic places, danced to their local music, took a boat ride, and hiked a volcano. YES HUNNIES, hiked a volcano. I was panting harder than I ever had before in my life, but hey, at least I survived (for the most part lol) I also had a VERY INTERESTING encounter with a monkey that came on our boat and tried to steal food and in doing so almost b-slapped my tour guide. Now its HILARIOUS, but at the time, I was like holy crap, "calm down Kind Kong." It was such a good time that I DID NOT want to leave. People were soooo nice. They greeted you with smiles and hugs. It is definitely a wonderful place to visit yall. Well enough yapping babes. Here's some pics from my trip!!!
